Projecting Better Days: A Projector Fundraiser

01/06/2026

For generations, the Historic Tivoli Theatre has been a place where our community gathers to laugh, reflect, and share unforgettable moments on the big screen. Today, we invite you to be part of the next chapter in that story. Preserving both the physical structure and the quality of the experience inside the theatre is essential to sustaining the Tivoli's mission.

In December, the Tivoli's aging digital projection system experienced multiple technical failures, including persistent color distortion (notably a blue tint), image instability, and unexpected interruptions during scheduled screenings. While troubleshooting allowed performances to continue and the Tivoli is currently operating as expected, these incidents confirmed that the current projector has reached the end of its reliable service life. At the start of each showing the projectionist holds their breath, hoping today won't be the end of the current projector and risking show cancellations, diminished audience experience, and lost revenue.

In response, the Tivoli is launching Projecting Better Days, a targeted fundraising initiative to acquire a new, state-of-the-art 4k laser projection system, $93,234.75. This upgrade will significantly improve image brightness, color accuracy, contrast, and operational reliability while reducing long-term maintenance costs. The new system will also support future programming needs, including special events, community rentals, and expanded film offerings.

Despite the December challenges, community response was extraordinary—audiences remained engaged and supportive, reinforcing the theatre's role as a valued and trusted institution. Investing in modern projection technology ensures that this historic venue can continue to meet contemporary exhibition standards while remaining accessible and financially sustainable.

Support for Projecting Better Days is an investment in both preservation and progress. By funding this essential infrastructure upgrade, donors and grant partners will help safeguard the Tivoli's future, protect earned revenue, and ensure that generations to come continue to experience high-quality cinema in a historic setting.
Every gift makes a difference, and we invite individuals, families, businesses, and anyone who loves this theatre to be part of this effort. Your support keeps the Tivoli’s lights glowing, the screen shining, and the doors open for generations to come.

Donations can be made
  • In Person at the Historic Tivoli Theatre during office hours or movie times
  • Mailed to the Tivoli Theatre at PO Box 408, Spencer, IN 47460
  • at the Owen County Community Foundation for the Historic Tivoli Theatre Projector Project (the above button)

Every dollar moves us closer to keeping our movies bright and clear on the big screen.
